Narum loves expansive skies. "I can still recall reclining in the back of that big station wagon, gazing out of the window at the cumulus clouds drifting by and finding great joy in picking out assorted beasts and other surrealistically strange creatures," he says. An open sky, endless vistas, and an unbridled imagination are hallmarks of Narum's individual self-expression. "I still really love exploring the delightful colors, shapes, and moods I experienced while painting my sky paintings. Each sky is an intriguing, challenging, and elegant journey for me," he says. He enjoys exploring different colors, shapes, and moods when painting skies. While most of his skyscapes are of Texas, stints in Oklahoma and Kansas have added some Midwestern flavor to his palette, broadening his physical scope, and his repertoire.
