  • Artist: Kim Coulter

    Kim Coulter

Like her art, Coulter's training has been as intensive as it is impressive. She began her formal training at the University of Texas, received her BA in Art Therapy from the College of New Jersey, and then continued her postgraduate work at the Art Institute of Southern California. She has participated in workshops with notable artists Ray Vinella, Martin Linville, Don Ward, and Gay Faulkenbury. Inspired by the early California Impressionists, Coulter paints "en plein aire" (in the open air). Twice a year, she packs up her paints and travels across the continent to capture the beautiful vistas. She says she paints this way because the wind shifts, the light and shadows move, and I have to work quickly to capture the fleeting moment. I like to create a feeling of peace and reflect nature in full bloom." While Coulter enjoys working in a representational style, she has begun exploring a more contemporary direction in her most recent paintings. “Giving the impression of something familiar along with a soft abstract approach has proved to be an enjoyable process for me as an artist," she says.
