Meyer was born and raised in Clinton Township, north of Detroit, in the Lake St. Clair area but is currently residing in Detroit. From ancestry of both French Canadian and German settlers to the upper Midwest, she came from a large extended family of all kinds of artistically talented people including music and traditional crafts. As a mostly self-taught artist, Marie has experimented with many different mediums and types of art but painting the landscape has given her art a voice. “While I have some formal training through countless art classes as a child/teen and some undergraduate credits, I had come to realize that an art education really wasn’t for me. Experiencing my art day in and day out has given me everything I need to work forward”. Experiencing the beautiful atmospheres over the Detroit River Valley, The Great Lakes provide images for her art along with travels to other places especially the coasts of the Southeastern USA and the plains of western Canada.
“Colors come and go so quickly right at sunrise and sunset and depend on the concentration of the clouds. I capture those scenes with a camera or saved memories and translate that to canvas using multiple mediums”.
